The work we do is rooted in real places. Our quarries and sites are surrounded by towns, villages, habitats and local businesses, and many of our colleagues and customers live within those same communities. That brings responsibilities that go beyond the materials we produce.
At Armstrongs, we aim to protect the environment around our operations, use resources carefully, maintain a safe and healthy workplace and support causes that matter to our people. These commitments form part of our everyday decisions and continue to develop as our business grows.
Environmental considerations are built into how we plan and carry out our work. We operate in line with relevant environmental legislation and expect contractors working on our behalf to meet the requirements that apply to them.
We make every reasonable effort to safeguard habitats and species and protect the character of the areas around our sites. Preventing pollution and protecting human health are also central to our approach.
Where hazardous materials are needed, we aim to limit their use, seek suitable alternatives where possible and make sure they are stored, handled and disposed of responsibly. We also maintain appropriate emergency and spill response arrangements wherever legislation or the level of risk requires them.

Quarrying works with natural resources, which makes careful use of materials particularly important.
Across our operations, we encourage the efficient use of raw materials, water, electricity and energy. We also work to reduce waste through reuse and recycling wherever this is practical.
Purchasing decisions form part of this commitment. Where suitable and economical options are available, we consider recycled, recyclable and refurbished products and aim to avoid materials that could cause unnecessary environmental harm.
These choices may appear small individually, but together they help reduce waste and make better use of the resources available to us.
A policy only makes a difference when people understand what it means for their own work.
We promote environmental awareness across Armstrongs and provide employees with training and information relevant to their roles. Appropriate staff time and financial resources are committed to supporting our environmental aims.
We also communicate our commitments to customers, contractors and the wider public. Protecting the environment depends on everyone involved understanding their responsibilities and following the right procedures.
Our environmental policy and performance are reviewed as our operations change. This allows us to consider new risks, respond to updated requirements and identify practical improvements.
Responsibility doesn’t end at the quarry gate. We also want to support the people and places connected to Armstrongs.
Over the years, our colleagues have organised coffee mornings, Christmas jumper days, raffles and other fundraising activities. These events have supported organisations including Rosemere Cancer Foundation, The Christie Charity and causes with a close personal connection to members of our team.
They give colleagues across the business a chance to come together while raising money and awareness for work that matters.
Throughout 2026, our fundraising has been dedicated to the Áine Rose Foundation, a cause that is especially close to the Armstrongs team.
The foundation was created in memory of Áine Rose Hurst, the 19-year-old daughter of Graham, one of our tipper drivers and a member of the Armstrongs team since 2017. Áine sadly passed in 2025 following a blood clot linked to the combined contraceptive pill.
Her family established the foundation to improve awareness of contraceptive safety and help people better understand the risks and warning signs associated with combined hormonal contraception.
Our Easter raffle, coffee morning and other fundraising activities during 2026 have supported this important work. You can read more about Áine’s story and the foundation’s aims.
We also look for practical ways to help within our local communities.
In December 2025, Armstrongs contributed towards the Christmas Day buffet provided by Morgan’s Coffee Shop in Blackrod. The café opened its doors to offer food, hot drinks and company to anyone who needed somewhere welcoming to spend part of the day.
We were pleased to help a local business bring people together at a time of year that can be difficult or lonely for some.
Quarries make much more sense when you can see one in action. We regularly welcome university students studying subjects such as geology and environmental science to visit our sites and learn from a working quarry.
Students can examine rock formations first-hand, see how stone is extracted and processed, and hear how our teams work to reduce environmental impact. These visits help connect classroom learning with real industry experience and give students the opportunity to ask questions of people working in quarrying every day.
Building a better future comes from consistent choices: using resources carefully, managing environmental risks, supporting our people and helping the communities around us when it matters.
